This article will delve into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) phase 2. If you want to know about the phase 1 movies, check out the . previous article After phase 1 ended with all our heroes coming together in Marvel’s Avengers, phase 2 began the next year with a new batch of movies. It continued storylines from the first phase, but it also introduced new characters and heroes. In total, phase 2 was composed of 6 films. So, here are all of the MCU phase 2 movies in order. Also, tread carefully; there will be phase 1 spoilers throughout this article. MCU Phase 2 Movies Iron Man 3 Thor: The Dark World Captain America: The Winter Soldier Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers: Age of Ultron Ant-Man 1. Iron Man 3 (2013) We begin phase 2 the same way we began phase 1, with an Iron Man movie. Iron Man, and all of the other Avengers, are changed people after the events of Marvel’s Avengers. Iron Man 3 focuses on what that means for Tony Stark. Unfortunately, he can’t just sit somewhere and contemplate on everything that happened. Someone from the past has it out for Tony Stark (honestly, he should be used to this happening by now), and that puts him, his friends, and his girlfriend in danger. To climb out of danger and fix his life, Tony Stark has to face his past and focus on his future. 2. Thor: The Dark World (2013) After Thor and the other Avengers stop Loki’s plans for world domination, Thor resumes his duties as prince of Asgard. And things seem like they’re back to normal, but that doesn’t last because a threat from the past rises again. The dark elf, Malekith, is back and worse than ever. I know that a dark elf doesn’t sound too intimidating but Malekith is the biggest danger that Thor has faced thus far. Because of this, Thor has to team up with his friends. This includes the Warrior’s Three, Sif, Jane Foster, and his trickster brother, Loki. Even with how bad and dangerous Malekith is, it remains to be seen if Loki will be an even bigger threat. 3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) Captain America, the Avenger out of time, is still getting accustomed to essentially jumping decades into the future. But just because the world changed doesn’t mean that Captain America has. He’s still helping people as a member of SHIELD, but secrets are hiding underneath that will significantly change the Captain’s life. One of those secrets is the origin of the mysterious assassin simply known as The Winter Soldier. He’s put a target on our hero’s life, and even though Captain America is a supersoldier, The Winter Soldier is no slouch either. It looks like the Captain met his match. 4. Guardians of the Galaxy (2015) Guardians of the Galaxy’s story takes place far far away from all the problems that are happening on Earth; although the main character, Peter Quill/Star-Lord, is originally from that planet. He’s the leader of the Guardians, a team that consists of Rocket, Groot, Drax, and Gamora. Each of these characters has a shady and turbulent past, but they come together to make a lot of money and to potentially save the galaxy. None of them are your typical heroes, and they don’t claim to be. They’re rough around the edges but they get the job done. That’s what makes watching them so fun, and that’s why Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best out of all of the MCU phase 2 movies. 5. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) The Avengers once again assemble to face a world-ending threat. But this isn’t a normal threat; it’s one that was created by Tony Stark. His name is Ultron; he’s an android determined to kill all humans, a goal he’s completely capable of achieving. For one, he’s incredibly intelligent, and two, he has a giant robot army at his disposal. And three, he also has two superpowered twins as allies. But the Avengers also have back-up in the form of the allies they've made in the past few films. Even with these new avengers, the team is facing an uphill battle. And even if they win, what consequences will they be facing for creating Ultron? 6. Ant-Man (2015) With how giant the stakes of Age of Ultron are, maybe you want something a little smaller. Scott Lang is a former criminal who’s given a second chance at life by Hank Pym. Pym is the original Ant-Man, and he needs someone else to don the suit; Pym sets his eyes on Scott Lang to replace him. Of all the MCU phase 2 movies, Ant-Man might be the most underrated. It’s a fun comedy movie, and I know that a lot of the MCU comedy can be hit or miss, but this movie has way more hits than it does misses. Everyone knocks it out of the park in this movie, but Paul Rudd especially kills it as Ant-Man. All in all, MCU’s phase 2 is just as great as its first one.
